Our History |

The Trent Severn Antique & Classic Boat Association was formed in Peterborough, Ontario in 1984, after a number of local antique boat enthusiasts held shows in the reach below the Peterborough Lift Lock with the encouragement of Parks Canada. An official club was formed and membership grew to approximately 60 by the late 1980s. Year-round events were held including larger shows on Little Lake, Peterborough. The club also hosted the original Heritage Canoe Festival in February each year in conjunction with the Canadian Canoe Museum also located in Peterborough.
During the 1990s the club became dormant disappointing many that were in awe of the fine watercraft located in the area. Fortunately some of the original founding members retained their enthusiasm keeping the club afloat. With hard work and determination, the Association flourished and now has a membership of approximately 170 in Canada and the United States with a collective ownership of over 400 boats. With renewed interest in antique / classic boats, the Association holds regular meetings and many events throughout the year. Events include workshops to promote the sharing of information, runs in waters throughout Southern Ontario, and shows that share the rich marine history that our boats and motors represent. In recent years the club has evolved from a “Wooden” boat club to a true Antique and Classic Boat Association embracing vintage aluminum and fiberglass classic boats as well. |
